flu shmu.

it was bound to happen. (this post, i mean.)

over the last two months, from the initial breakout on march 18 until may 20, there have been 80 confirmed deaths out of 10,250 cases (a .78% death rate) from the swine flu virus, according to bbc.com. check out this map which lets you scroll across day by day, showing the spread of the virus.

my feelings?

"It is worth remembering that seasonal flu often poses a serious threat to public health: each year it kills 250,000 - 500,000 around the world." (from this Q&A article from bbc.com, my own emphasis added)

and people don't seem to be freaking out about that now do they?

or how about the million plus that die in traffic accidents? (from this article) of course we have to be careful and policy makers are "damned if they do and damned if they don't" but what kind of life would it be if we avoided going places or doing things because we might get sick, or hit by a car, or cancer from using your cell phone? you can't just stop crossing roads or answering the phone.

the world we live in is full of viruses, diseases, germs (not to mention daily hazards that we, for the most part, seem to survive). some good, some bad, some we aren't prepared for, some we need to built antibodies against. but, they're never going to go away.

so, wash your hands, take your vitamins, eat your veggies, get enough sleep and don't forget to LIVE life.
