gettin' girly

on my way home today, i got off a stop early and did some window shopping. i rarely go clothes shopping in japan because even at stores that you would think would have american sizes, have actually adjusted their sizes. which, makes sense seeing as japanese people are their market, but it makes finding my size more trouble than it's worth. that's not to say i can't find anything that fits, but it's harder.

that being said, i am always looking at what people are wearing and keeping my eye out for styles i like. (i'm not saying i actually succeed in ever putting them together for myself - in fact, i'm a jeans and t-shirt kinda gal, but i love to style shop by watching people where ever i go) lately i've seen a couple people with cuffed up jeans and bright yellow pumps so i've sort of got my eye on shiny yellow shoes, but didn't see any. instead i made a quick browse through at gap. i saw some cute shorts and a peasant-esque top that i thought would be really cute with some flat leather strappy sandals (that i don't actually own, but in my mind...) but wasn't in the mood to try anything on.

then i wandered through Marui and finally bought hose, like i've been meaning to for at least 2 weeks now. i also saw a really cute hair-tie with a white fabric flower attached to it but its 2100yen price tag deterred me. (side note: i have a bunch of 1000yen gift certificates that all the 3rd year teachers got them as a thank you at graduation that can be used at big department stores and other "participating" stores. i used them to pay for my hose, but i'm a penny pincher and didn't buy the hair tie.)

but, as i walked away from the register with my hose, i realized that these are the very times i should be using them. i should use them on things that i normally wouldn't buy for myself. i might go back and get it.

i wandered the other floors, saw a couple cute things, but just wasn't in the mood to get into a changing room and actually see if anything fit. until i got to pageboy. and this called my name:

i tried it on and it was love. it's fairly short when worn as a dress (but not nearly as short as some high school girls' skirts, so i think i'm safe) and it's past my knees when worn as a skirt. and i used some of my gift certificates, but since i can't get cash change back, had to pay 995yen. still a total deal in my mind!

i got it home and tried it on as a skirt with a bunch of different tops and then as a dress with some cardigan-type tops and even a pair of pants. lots of options. i will be wearing it to the school festival on sunday. always nice to have a cute girly outfit to counteract the always-pant-wearing-me.

hopefully he notices. ;)
