fabric shopping date

sometime last week, jojoebi and i decided to meet up on saturday in nippori for some fabric fun. we laughed later that neither of us knew what the other looked like, but that neither seemed worried about finding each other at the station. as expected, we didn't have any trouble. :P

i didn't have any kind of "to buy" list, though i was in the market for something to help me make little tags with a j. to sew onto future projects. and even though i live a 10 minute bike ride from nippori's "fabric town" and should know the ins and outs of the place, but i don't. instead we wandered around the main street, stopping by the tomato first, then the surrounding area before taking a lunch break and then heading back to the tomato (it's just THAT good). i got all kinds of goodies though iPhoto is having a hissy fit right now, so no photos; i'm sure it'll make seeing the finished projects all that much more exciting. anyway, i had a great time--thanks jojoebi!!

some bargains:
100yen a meter for a green upholstery fabric that reminds me of something that might have covered an arm chair in my grandma's old house. it caught my eye and i couldn't walk away from a price like that so i bought 5 meters!! i got it home and it's almost the exact pattern as my curtains. now i just have to figure out a way to work it into my bedroom interior design plan (which is practically non-existent, but i'd like there to be one).

some not so much bargains:
680yen a meter for a navy fabric with cute little cherry blossoms on it, white and pink with pale mint green accents. it's going to be a stripe in a mostly navy blue curtain to hang in front of my shower room door and a matching curtain for the window in my toilet room.

i got a bunch of other some fun stuff too:
pink hippo fabric and pink with white polka dot fabric to match, little rolls of "japanese-y" fabric and some plain colors too, lots of cord (dozens of drawstring bags, here i come!) and...yay! printer friendly iron on paper to make my tags!!!

now, absolutely NO MORE fabric buying allowed until i've put a noticeable dent in what i've accumulated. if it weren't for being a full 2 days behind on my study schedule, i'd spend the whole day tomorrow sewing! but alas, there's a itty bitty tiny little (read: HUMONGOUS) test in exactly seven weeks so i need to get my act together. sewing will come...

p.s. jojoebi reminded me that i still need make that pinwheel pillow tutorial, and now that i've got lots of pretty fabric, it shouldn't be too much longer in the making. :)

ooooo, wish I could have flown over to Japan to join you both. how fun!! I agree completely with jojoebi about the pillow tutorial. Looking forward to seeing your bags, you'll be addicted I promise. I have 2 more almost completed, sitting on my sewing machine!

Hi! I clicked on your link from jojoebi. sounds like you had a great time! I'm jealous since I have never been to nippori.
