a new toy!

it all started because i have been brainstorming some kind of bag for my hula hoops. i was talking to Cheer at work about my new hoops and she has a friend who apparently has a hoop bag that is actually less a bag, and more of a hoop cover with elastic that stretches over the hoops. the wheels began turning.

and then today i was wandering through the "living" floor of ito yokado and found myself pulling out fat quarters of fabric, matching them, and envisioning little drawstring pouches. the next logical step? a sewing machine:
ain't she pretty?? i've wanted one for awhile (since at least the beginning of february) and she is super easy to use (thank god for illustrations in japanese user manuals!) and i already whipped up a little something:
i don't have any pins or an iron, which makes sewing straight and even a little difficult, but unless you look closely, you can't really see that stuff.

i've been sewing since middle school. my mom showed me and my best friend how to use the sewing machine and we would try to make all kinds of funky stuff, most of which never succeeded, but we had a great time. i've never really had the patience for patterns, but i've gotten a bit better and enjoy patchwork stuff and simple bags. i made a patchwork quilt/comforter for my boyfriend in high school, and i had an small across-the-shoulder pouch that i used as my purse for at least a couple years in high school too.

i need to get some pins and possibly an iron (it makes it so much easier when you can iron things flat and/or the way you want them to stay before actual sewing) but i look forward to all kinds of sewing projects!!
