while i know out in bloggy-world, there are a lot of foreign woman married to japanese men, we don't usually see a lot of them where i work. i don't know if it's a location thing, or a job/schedule related thing, or a language thing, or what, but, relatively (compared to the number of japanese-japanese couples, foreign-foreign couples and japanese woman-foreign man couples) we see only a handful of foreign women with japanese husbands.
but today, a woman came in with her japanese husband and two kids. after talking to her for a little bit, we seemed to establish, from our accents, that we were both american so when she asked me where i was from, i said, "ohio."
she looked at me in a way that made me think she was going to say "i'm from ohio, too!" but she didn't. instead, she said, "oh, i went to xxx college." i went to the same college! i should mention that the school i went to is in the middle-of-NO-where ohio and has less than 1500 students, so many people have never even heard of it, not to mention went there.
crazy!
sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of the city, the jam packed subways and trains, and the often overwhelming tiny-fish-in-a-huge-pond feel of tokyo, it's always nice to be reminded of how small the world really is.
