lunch date

yesterday, May and i met at hongo san-chome station (toei oedo line) for a long overdue lunch date.  she just finished her semester exams (at tokyo university law school...wow) and finally has some down time to sit and chat over lunch. we actually went to tokyo university's campus to an "omuraisu" place she knew.  i'd never been to the campus before and was surprised how non-japanese it looked. there were old brick buildings and brick sidewalks and lots of GREEN.  trees lining the walkways and benches and, even though it was raining, it was beautiful. May said i would love it in the fall, and i will be sure to wander through once the leaves start changing.

we had lunch here:

日比谷松本楼GRILL

i didn't take a picture, but my "hayashi omuraisu" looked exactly like this.  it was delicious.

May and i talked about everything from school to boys to travel to future plans to...the fact that we hadn't seen each other since february 2009??!  i still don't know if it's really been that long, because that seems impossible.  but, we picked up right where we left off (whenever it was).  i love those kind of friendships.

for dessert we headed back onto hongo doori to:

Cafe&Gallery ボン・アート
Cafe&Gallery Bon Art

it was a funky little "japanese sweets" cafe with a gallery wall space on one side and old upholstered wooden chairs on the other side and then the back opened up a bit with booths and a few more tables. the place looked like it hasn't changed since the 70s or 80s, decor-wise.

we both ordered あんみつ (anmitsu); mine with cold oolong tea and May with hot green tea. the weather was probably cold enough to warrant hot tea, but i was feeling warm enough without drinking anything hot. and, even though i thought green tea would "go better" with anmitsu, i chose oolong tea anyway (those were our two options).
oolong tea and anmitsu officially go great together.
