picnic quilt

back in the beginning of july, i picked up a bunch of polka dot fabrics (50x50cm) and some awesome cupcake fabric and matching "hot red" with images of a big cozy picnic quilt in my head.  here it is:

these two photos were just after the binding was sewn onto one side, but they're the only photos i have of the quilting.  in hindsight, i should have basted it better (more safety pins!) and probably quilted another line in between the ones i did.  my machine arm can't really handle a quilt of this size very well, but for a first try, i'm pretty happy with it.

for the last part, i sat down, snuggled under the quilt and hand sewed the binding to the other side.

and about 4 or 5 hours (total) later, my picnic quilt was finished...

just in time for a friend's park wedding celebration!  i should have taken the chance to get some fun outdoor quilt shots, but all i have is this:

it was perfect.  when we arrived, there weren't very many people there yet, and Ro got sleepy.  he took a quick nap, stretched out on the quilt.  later, 3 or 4 of us sat, with plenty of room, drinking, eating and being merry.

must plan more picnics next summer just to use it. :)

That's a lovely quilt it is so bright and cheery. I hope you get lots of chances to use it next summer, even this autumn!

What are you going to make next?
