chutes and ladders quilt

yesterday i started in on this quilt along over here.

i got all my strips cut,

sorted into groups of six,

and then sewed into nine strips, all random and hopefully none too much like any other.

they got their own photo shoot, and then i made myself go to bed.



this morning i woke up and began cutting again,

until all nine strips were cut into three (31.5cm) square blocks, with a bit left over

i played around with the extra pieces and made this:

which i will probably work into the backing of the quilt.

back to the squares, i laid them out, as per the quilt along pattern:

but i didn't like it. it just didn't look "right" to me.

i debated doing something like i'd done with the smaller pieces, where i made sure one fabric WAS touching itself instead of making sure they weren't touching. but it didn't bug me enough to figure out seam allowances and everything else, so i settled on something somewhere in the middle and it ended up looking like this:



p.s. even the BACK is pretty :)


p.p.s. after posting this and looking at the finished photo, there are two blocks whose placement bugs me! oh well...
