27.thursday
i had a "meeting" with the vice principal, Ms. Ohio, and two of the guys from the travel agency that arranged the trip to canada. Ms. Ohio did most of the "canada talk" from our end (as chaperones) and had to leave early, which left me to fend for myself with the three older guys. it was at a classic izakaya and the drinks were free flowing. haha. even after all the drinks i had, i was just happily buzzed and the men seemed to be sleepy drunk by the end of the night.
the vice principal said some really nice things about me and my work ethic and just my general "being" in the middle school, which was much appreciated. it's unusual (apparently?) for japanese people to praise people within their own company to people in other companies (the "in" vs. "out" thing) but he didn't hesitate at all in front of these guys. granted he was drunk, but i'll take it! sometimes i wonder if the extra effort that i put in goes noticed. of course there are times i feign ignorance, or leave as soon as i'm technically allowed, but for the most part, i put in my time and do as much as i can around the school and office. while i don't do it to get noticed, it's always nice to know that someone takes note when you're working hard.
