a perfect afternoon

we got home from costco and put away the groceries.

i cut the pizza into squares,
froze 4 for another day,
and put 2 for dinner into the fridge.

we washed a bunch of grapes,
put a couple handfuls of chips into a zip lock,
and each grabbed a bottle of water.

i folded my picnic quilt,
and Ro put our books into my backpack.

we walked to ueno park.
(well, Ro and the bags rode my bike,
i jogged along side, laughing.)

despite the warm sunny afternoon,
there were no other picnic-ers.
a lack of grassy areas may to be to blame
but we weren't deterred.

we found a quiet spot of dirt,
and stretched out on our quilt.
the sky was beautiful.

Ro used my backpack as a pillow.
and i used Ro.
it looked like this:

(i just realized you can see Ro's eye
peeking out under his hand.
maybe it's the angle; it looks weird.)

we stayed like that for about an hour,
until the mosquitoes were too much
and it was getting dark.

we packed up our things and walked home.
(actually, we took turns riding
on the back of my bike
while the other pedaled.)

it was a perfect afternoon.

p.s. i almost forgot! we stopped here, on a whim, on our way home too.
