kawasaki halloween

better late than never, right?

Ro's friends invited a bunch of their friends to kawasaki to watch the parade together on saturday (oct. 31st). Ro and i got there for the tale end of the parade and then just walked around checking out all the fun costumes. we didn't dress up, ourselves, though. yeah, i know, such party poopers. maybe next year. anyway, i'll spare you (most of) the boring text and just get to the photos:

no group of sexy asian characters is complete without...the joker?

this mario luigi couple was quite popular and people were constantly gathering to take their photo. and their outfits were completely handmade. kudos.

if sexy policewomen find a genie in a bottle, this is bound to happen. didn't hurt that the lamp said "rub me."

this costume was intense. the hands moved...

and there were flashing lights and...he was on stilts.

good thing he won the grand prize 'cuz i imagine he spent a fortune just making it.

everyone loves small dogs in costume.

i couldn't get a good photo in the crowd, but there were two adults and a child dressed as marionettes. such a creative idea; they won some kind of prize too.

it was like disney world with all the little kids posing for photos with nemo and his dad. and cute feet!

and these were my favorites of the day. they didn't hold still for very long and the lighting was bad, but it was two girls (and a guy, but i didn't get a close view of him, i was too enthralled by the girls) with fantastic face jobs. they must study theater makeup and acting. it reminded me of something like they probably do for shows like the musical Cats by adding rubbery pieces to their faces to change the shape and color, but blend it so well with makeup that it looks like their actual face. they were completely "in character" and their outfits and the way they moved (really jerky and possessed-like) were awesome. they were classic zombie horror movie OL. they won the horror award.

in the evening, we went to see rocky horror picture show, which was showing for 500yen (including a drink). not having seen it before, i was super annoyed by the obnoxious people in the audience who were shouting out lines and witty comments during the movie so much that i read the japanese subtitles half the time to know what people were saying. but even that was hard because the people acting it out on the stage in front of the screen were covering up the subtitles. eventually i got a little bit into it, even though the movie was bizarre. though, in hindsight, if i had rented it, i think i would have just thought it was so weird and turned it off. so maybe it's a good thing i saw it the way i did.

a few awkward moments (due to the fact that a bunch of us didn't know each other) but overall a fun time. wearing a good costume seems tiring because everyone wants their photo with you, but if you can get into it, definitely fun.

That's the whole point of RHPS, though. They do that EVERYWHERE it's shown (I've been in Seattle and Australia). If you go again, you should bring props; newspaper, water for squirting, etc.

right, but even though a few of the people i was with had seen it before, they didn't mention it (or are they not supposed to??) so i didn't get it until i realized that people came "prepared." a little heads up would have been appreciated, i guess.
