costco call

i called costco just now to make sure they had pumpkins, before i drag my butt all the way there to find out they have none. this was the conversation, in japanese:

"do you sell pumpkins?"
(i said pumpkins, in english)

"pumpkins?"
(she repeated pumpkins, in english)

"yes, you know, kabocha?"
(i said pumpkins, in japanese)

"kabocha?"
(she repeated pumpkins, in japanese...what is going on here?!)

"yes, the big ones?"

"yes."
(is that, yes you're selling them, or yes you know what i'm talking about?!)

"so, you ARE selling them?"

"yes."

"how much are they?"

"um...i'm sorry, i can't tell you the price over the telephone. you have to come to the store..."

wha?!!!! that's just stupid. oh japan.

but i, having not learned better yet, decide to ask another question ANYWAY:

"do you still have a lot left?"

"well, we are still selling them, but depending on when you come, there's a chance there might not be any."

"okay, well i'm going today..."

"as of this morning we had pumpkins, but i can't say for sure. you'll have to come to the store."

of course, you can't say ANYTHING for sure!!! what help are you?!

"yeah, okay, thanks."

no really, thanks.

sigh.

Grrr! At those people who answered the phone when you called. If it helps at all, I think the medium ones, that we got were about 1500 yen, maybe 1589 or something like that. It was about a month ago, so I don't really remember exactly. But it at least gives you a sorta vague idea, at least. : ) I hope they have plenty for when you get there! Enjoy your pizza and stuff today Jo! : )

well...it is a big store, and the place where they answer the phone isn't even *in* the store (at least, not at costco). i don't think the computers even keep an accurate count during the day. good luck with your pumpkin!
