tuesday ☆s

☆ oh my gosh, these PET bottle bags are addictive! i just made a second one out of a teal fabric with cute little beige and pink octopi (that looks and sounds weird), lined in sea green. actually, i used this fabric before and i believe i called the color mint chocolate chip. i made it just as deep as the first one, but made it a little wider. my wallet, cell phone and pocket camera all fit in with room to spare. and i did the top better so it's fully reversible. i'm a sucker for reversible things.

☆ i also just scored myself a private english student. once a week for two hours. tentatively for about 6 months. and it's a nice price (hey, a girl's gotta pay rent, right?) he's a board member of a big company in tokyo but the girl who introduced us (she sent a CCed email and let him reply to me) said he's really nice and easy to talk to. we're meeting for the first time this weekend, so hopefully it goes well.

☆ i went in for my first round of permanent hair removal (underarms) today. after the patch test a couple weeks ago that worked, i got the two year plan for 6000yen, which i think is pretty cheap, though certainly there are even cheaper places. we'll see how it worked in a couple weeks' time.

☆ japanese class kicked my butt again today. last thursday was my first day and thursdays are for grammar and reading. tuedays are for kanji and listening. kanji, oh joy. so i studied yesterday for 2+ hours for the kanji we were going to go over today. i was pretty sure i should have studied more and, yeah, i should have. but, before that, there was a quiz over the kanji from last week. since i wasn't there last tuesday, i didn't know that, nor had i studied the kanji they covered last week. doh. i managed to answer about three fourths of the questions, but felt like i was already giving the teacher a bad impression. double doh.

☆ my mom is getting another dog today. we already have a one year old (1 and a half?) miniature dachshund named steve. he's a wired haired dachshund, which basically means he has bed head, all day, every day. he's tiny (read: smaller than our average-sized cat) so people are never sure what kind of dog he is. he's also super laid back. he will romp for about 20 minutes like a normal puppy his age and then is completely exhausted and will just collapse where ever he is for a nap. he loves people and being held by anyone. he only barks once or twice if he thinks you are ignoring him when he wants to play. otherwise, he's totally chill. he's the hairy one:
stella has the same mother as steve, so my mom is hoping that she will be equally as laid back. she has the same bed head hair as steve, but darker. another "oh, and what kind of dog is that?" dog. it is a purebred miniature dachshund, just not the kind that ever make it to dog shows. they are sort of the "throw aways" of the litter. this is stella at 9 weeks: judging from photos of steve at this age, she's gonna end up being even hairier than steve so pretty soon we'll have two little hairy log dogs running around. can't wait to go home for christmas!

☆ my sister's keeper, the movie, is coming out on october 9th. the japanese title, 私の中のあなた watashi no naka no anata, is a pretty cheesy title and doesn't do the original title justice. anyway, i'm not a huge movie goer (who would be at $18 a pop?!) but i loved this book so i want to see this one. and i'll be taking my box of tissues thankyouverymuch. if you haven't read the book, i recommend it. and tissues with lotion. "they're both good." (ooh, name that comedian*)

*if anyone actually knows who i'm referring to, i might just have to send you something, because anyone who knows and loves that comedian enough to know, immediately gets bonus points and deserves a prize in my book.
