gel nails

in my attempts to stop biting/picking at my fingernails, i got gel nails back in march for the first time. unlike with acrylic nails, they don't sand down the top of your nails nor is it an extension added to yournails. it's a clear (or colored) gel that gets painted on over top of your existing nails. it sets under a uv light in minutes and is hard enough that you can't use fingernail clippers. they just grow out and eventually air makes its way between your nail and the gel, and the gel part falls off.

last week i decided to get them again for the couple weeks before i go to mt. fuji. (on mt. fuji my nails will get ripped to shreds because it's so dry. also, just in day to day working, my already weak nails take a beating.) i splurged a bit for a fancier design than i originally planned, but for the 3 weeks before heading up, my nails actually look cute! they've already grown out a bit and while the length isn't that long, it's something i'm not used to and the urge to pick at them is huge. luckily they are too hard and they look too good to mess with.

You don't need to "sand down" the natural nails for acrylic either. If you are going to someone that does, find a new salon.

When I had acrylic, they sanded them down too, then got some stuff on there that took all the moisture from my nails. Now when my nails grow they have these ridges, so unsightly!!

I will definately consider getting gel nails done, that sounds more my thing. :)

Yours look very pretty!!
