twenty for 2012 recap

here goes nothing (literally!):

1. make my brother and his fiancée a quilt for their wedding
not yet.

2. make something with the fabric swap fabric
not this one either.

3. learn to cook fish
or this one.

4. climb mt fuji with my parents
i climbed twice, but not with my parents. :(

5. travel somewhere (ANYWHERE) by plane
i went to china in december for a work meeting. slid by on this one by chance.

6. restart selling on etsy (goal of 36 sold items over the year)
i used my sewing machine all of 3 times in 2012. sad sad sad.

7. learn to make something other than soup/chili in the crock pot
didn't do this either.

8. organize recipes from online into a notebook or file of sorts
nope.

9. buy and actually use a real (and functional) address book
not yet!

10. transfer my music from my old computer to my new one (but clean out beforehand!)
i thought i'd lost my power cord to my old computer, but then found it. still didn't do this though.

11. reread letters to a young poet and 6 other books
did i even read ONE whole book? :(

12. throw away papers and other "things" i no longer need (be ruthless!)
hmmm

13. clean out my clothes (be as ruthless as possible)
didn't happen in 2012 but MUST happen in 2013.

14. do (make?) something for my mom's 60th birthday
i think i called her. bad daughter.

15. do fourth of july (aka picnic party)
didn't do anything. worked on the 4th. :/

16. go to the beach (and do it before obon, when the jellyfish come out)
I ACTUALLY DID THIS!!

17. do halloween (aka pumpkin carving party)
YES.

18. do thanksgiving
YES and it was a HUGE success.

19. send out new year's cards (on time, if possible)
did not happen, MUCH to my dismay. :(:(:(

20. call/facetime my parents on a regular basis and always tell them i love them.
i think i was "better" about this in 2012 then 2011 at least.

and THAT, my friends, is what we call a FAIL.

yep, pretty much just flat-lined.

BUT! i had a great year in the places not on this list. i got out of a relationship that wasn't going anywhere good, i took time to be alone, be me and free and happy again. i worked hard, trained some new people at work, felt confident and comfortable in what i was doing and put out good numbers/results.

i spent a summer with girl friends, a gaggle of gay guy friends, made a ton of new friends, and loved it all. the fall was just as full. i carved pumpkins twice, hosted thanksgiving for 12 people and no one left hungry (or sober, probably!), put up my christmas tree and had a christmas cookie decorating party that left me with dozens of delicious cookies. i also went on some dates with some nice-but-just-not-for-me guys and then found one really great guy.

predictions for 2013? work will be intense, stressful, frustrating, busy, challenging and, with any luck, rewarding when it's all said and done. but #5 makes me feel fairly certain 2013 will be full of happy, content, challenging, adventurous, goofy grin-filled days, too.

i don't even know if i'm making an official "2013 list." there are a couple dozen things on my mental to-do list, but they may or may not eventually make it into an actual blog post. we'll see...

Nah, don't make the list - just focus on a fabulous year with adventures and happy times. Sounds like #5 will help with that :)

I can help with the slowcooker recipe! This is FABULOUS! I use the kata roast meat and nowhere near 5 pounds. More like 300 grams! The broth is fabulous as noodle soup otr the base of a soup too so you get two meals (and more- leftovers!) out of one piece of meat.

Your 2013 sounds fabulous even with out 30 for 13. I reckon 5 is your lucky number this year! :)

Just FYI- your blog is set to captcha code. So was mine but I didn't even realise. Just checking if you did it on purpose or not.

gaijinwife,
i actually wrote my list down in a notebook last night. maybe i'll do a recap a year from now, IF i get most of them done. ;) and yes, #5 is proving himself more and more a sweetheart every day...

shinshu life,
will definitely have to try the pulled pork recipe! thanks!!

and, um, yeah, i had to google captcha code! i don't remember, but i probably turned it on at one point and then completely forgot about it. now i don't get nearly enough traffic to even warrant getting spam comments, so i turned it off. thanks for the heads up!

and yes, five might be my favorite number from now on. ;)
