i have never really liked running for the sake of just running.
i joined cross country in middle school and was a decent runner, earning points for our team here and there, i think. or, maybe more than that? i don't remember...
and i ran track in the spring of my sophomore year of high school because i was bored and had nothing else to do in the soccer off-season and a friend was on the team.
i occasionally went for runs on the back country roads around my rural college town, but the stress relief goal was usually outweighed by my "need" (and usual inability) to run a faster mile.
so why did i just register* for the tokyo marathon?!
i have no idea.**
guess i should probably buy some actual running shoes.
*there are way more applicants than spots, so they hold a lottery mid-october to determine who can run. they do separate "japanese" and "foreign" drawings, and apparently the chances are pretty good if you're a foreign applicant. we'll see!
**actually, i toyed with the idea last year but missed the registration deadline and it's one of the things on my not-written-anywhere-but-half-written-in-my-head-30-things-by-30-list, which has a march 2013 deadline. eek!
