i rarely go clothes shopping in japan, but yesterday i wandered into the gap to "just have a look" and walked out with a shopping bag. inside were some great deals:
dolman sleeve blouse: 6800 ⇨ 1900
drapey t: 3200 ⇨ 1200
ella romper: 9800 ⇨ 900
boucle vest (but in gray): 8800 ⇨ 3520
total: 28,600 ⇨ 7220
woohoo, i saved 21,380yen! and, i am now a romper owner. it looked kind of blah/frumpy on the hanger, but it was actually cute on, and for 900yen, down from 9800 (wow!!) i couldn't say no. hopefully i'll still like it when it gets warm. the vest was a "splurge" (relatively) but i was feeling good about saving so much on the rest that i threw it in.
before the gap, i stopped at abc mart and bought some new converse (pink!) for 3800 and a 3 pack of [work] socks for 780.
before abc mart, i went to the datsumon salon to take advantage of this campaign (the "v-line + upper area + lower area"). even though it's 14,000 off and i got another 5% off for paying in cash, 28,500 is still not cheap, but i'm half way through the 2 year plan getting my underarms done and i'm pretty pleased with the results, so i went for it.
merry christmas to me.
so, with new things, old things must go! i just spent the the last 2 hours cleaning out my closet, trying to be as ruthless as i could be about throwing things in the "get rid of" pile. i have a pretty big box full of clothes. i'm trying to figure out what to do with them. flea market (in this weather?), used clothing store (where?), salvation army (their website sounds like they are quite selective about what they will take), or just put it out with the trash? suggestions anyone?
p.s. i obviously didn't have trouble finding a way to spend the money i found. haha!
p.p.s. i keep thinking if i get rid of enough stuff, i can convince Ro to move into the little apartment i fell in love with on sunday. good motivation to get rid of things, even though i know deep down, it's a futile battle. that said, even if it's not that apartment, eventually i will have to pack up all my things to move, so i need to get rid of more.

Sounds good! Always feels great to get a bargain and really, with that money you found it was all free anyway!
As for your old stuff - Tell and Sell Japan for the better stuff that you think you could get a little money for, Tokyo Freecycle for the rest? I see clothes on there quite a lot.
sounds great! I'm off to GAP tomorrow to pick up some basics. I love their scoopy neck and boatneck tees.
I agree with TASJ, or even among your blogger friends..ahem...
Or dissect the clothes to make patterns for making new ones? It's such a waste to throw clothes in the bin, isn't it? I've done it in the past though..so easy, but such a waste...
